The Soap drawn from the Kettle through skimmer pipe is transferred to a Crutcher to neutralize any remanents of free alkali by the addition of oil or fatty acids etc. Apart from reduction of alkali it is also used to achieve an uniform mix during the addition of various additives in the soap.
